The study of languages is my greatest passion in life. I would like to include essays later on certain subjects, such as fluency, native speakers, etc. For now, I will list the languages with which I had or have experience (ranging from very little experience to fluency):
- (Palestinian Levantine) Arabic: my mother tongue
- French: 1st through 5th grade
- Latin: 9th and 12th grade
- Italian: 10th grade to the present
- German: 1st year at university to the present*
- Russian: taught myself very briefly during 11th grade
- Polish: taught myself briefly during 12th grade
- Hebrew: taught myself briefly during 12th grade
*
I actually started teaching myself German during 10th and 11th grade, but gave up and decided to wait until university.
At this point, as is evident from the list, I am only focusing on
German and
Italian. Just to avoid any confusion, the only languages in which I consider myself fluent, and which I am relatively comfortable speaking, are (in order of degree of fluency):
English,
Arabic,
Italian, and
German.
I should also mention that I am very fascinated with Slavic languages. I would have liked to be fluent in at least one Slavic language, but I'm afraid that I will not be able to accomplish that anytime soon.
