Back from a long (unofficial) hiatus

Wow... This is the longest break I've ever taken from blog-writing. Seven months... seven months! All because I (almost) gave up on figuring out how a particular feature of the IntenseDebate commenting system works... Well, I believe I figured it out yesterday late at night.

Some of you may say that I should have continued writing in my blog even though there was no way for anyone to comment on my entries. Maybe I should have, but the fact of the matter is... blogs are written to be read by others. I think the most obvious way you know that someone is reading is by seeing comments. If I simply wanted to write entries for no one to read, I would have done that in my personal, private diary.

Anyway, Tiffany, if you're reading this: I know this layout is old and needs changing!! :P I told you that it would take me forever to make a new layout. It's such a hassle... I simply don't have as much patience for it as you do. :P

So, what's new since February? Well, I graduated in May--that's the most important update. Other than that, there's not much in my life at the moment that's exciting or worth mentioning.

On a random note: I've been really getting into an Arabic TV series (a historical drama) called Suqout al-Khilaafa (سقوط الخلافة, meaning "The Fall of the Caliphate"), which is essentially about the fall of the Ottoman Empire. It aired in Ramadan this year (from August to September). It starts with the death of Sultan Abdülaziz I and goes on from there to show the different causes for the decline and fall of the Ottoman Empire. Here's the intro for those who are interested.

I've also been watching the Turkish TV series Yabancı Damat ("The Foreign Groom"). It's a couple of years old, but ever since it's been dubbed into Arabic, I decided to watch it. It's mainly about a love story between a Turkish girl and a Greek guy, and how they reconcile their cultural differences and historic antagonisms. A Greek friend of mine told me about it when it first came out. I thought it was cool, but I had no way to watch it because there was no dubbed or subtitled version of it in any language I could understand. :P But about a year ago, I found out that it has been dubbed into Arabic, and that's when I considered watching it. I couldn't find a video clip of the intro only, so here's a video that contains both the intro and some of the first episode. I've only finished the first two episodes, but it's just so nice to watch. Even though it's Turkish, almost everything about it reminds me of the (Arabic part of the) Levant. The way they talk, the way the houses and streets look, the food... everything. Ah, it brings back nice memories from the time I spent in Turkey back in January 2008 (if only I could have seen Turkey in warmer weather).
